Even though there is no cure for rosacea, it is possible to control your rosacea and limit some of the negative effects it causes. To prevent the progression of the symptoms, you need to eliminate sources of inflammation and irritation which in turn will reduce the redness.

Here a few tips to stay ahead of your rosacea.

1. Avoid sun exposure. The sun is one of the worst culprits for irritating rosacea. Hot weather and the sun both tend to exacerbate rosacea, so make sure to limit sun exposure, and apply a high quality sunscreen with an SPF value of 30 or more. It’s also a good idea to try avoiding the sun at peak times, usually between 11AM to 3PM.

2. Besides the sun, avoid anything that will make your body temperature rise. Overheating the body can cause flushing and turn your face bright red. If you can try avoiding vigorous exercise and anything else that will heat your body such as hot showers or hot tubs.

3. The things you eat and drink can affect your rosacea. Spicy foods cause skin flushing, which leads to further inflammation and irritation. You can also add caffeinated beverages and alcohol to the list of things to avoid.

4. Avoid rubbing, scrubbing, or massaging facial skin. Aggressive cleaning may irritate your skin. Use light pressure, use gentle cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreens, and other facial products.

5. Talk to a dermatologist. Talk to a your doctor or dermatologist about your rosacea symptoms. They can help you create a unique treatment plan specific to your needs and your type of rosacea.
